Why don’t I join ISIS ?

Abdalaziz Alhamza “RBSS”

If you live outside Syria, you may not find a convincing reason of why thousands of young Syrians have joined ISIS? But the one who witnesses facts on ground will grieve for those poor young people because he finds several reasons that lie behind joining ISIS. We can almost be certain that the region is going to face something worse than ISIS if political situation remains the same.

Violence, oppression and marginalization will only lead to violence, bloodiness and extremism. Syrian regime violence is worse than ISIS violence, the only different is that ISIS boasts and does that in front of cameras while Syrian regime tries to hide and conceal that.

A simple young Syrian guy finds out that the whole world is standing beside the dictator; the whole world is disregarding missiles, bomb barrels, and chemical weapons. When this guy witnesses how patriot honorable soldiers are prevented from getting armed while terrorist groups take over control several military divisions in Iraq and Syria with a blink of an eye. All of these will turn this guy into a real monster not only an ISIS fighter.
We are not justifying terrorism here; in fact we are quite serious in our war against terrorism while the whole world is not. It is useless to try to get rid of ISIS without getting rid of the reasons that led to its existence. Terrorism is the legitimate child of injustice, oppression, tyranny and unequal life chances, dealing with the results is useless as long as the reasons still exist.

When you talk to a Syrian ISIS fighter in a closed room, he will not talk to you about the religious rules because he knows quite well that ISIS does not represent Islam at all. Religion –As to him- is an important tool to gather as much people as it is possible to face the enemy.

We believe that the international community is pushing the open minded Syrian guys towards ISIS. How can we convince young Syrian guys -whose villages were demolished by Russian warplanes – to stay moderate, while the civilized world is standing a side?
United States believes that by preventing rebels from getting weapons and allowing Russia to demolish cities and towns -which makes it easier to the regime to advance-, the political opposition will be forced to accept any solution. United States may success with its strategy, but they missed the fact that doing this will bring more and more extremist groups, even worse than ISIS.

Young Syrian guys have reached the stage where they have nothing to lose, or maybe they now think that losing their lives is better. If things continue like this, one day we will find ourselves in front of the most extremist groups ever.
