Fire broke out in one of ISIS plants in Raqqa

Exclusive – Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently

On Tuesday 21/07/2015 a fire broke out in Liquefied Petroleum Gas Cylinders Filling plant belonging to ISIS in Al-Hamrat, eastern Raqqa. The reasons behind this incident could not be identified. Recently, ISIS has set up this facility to address the local market demands for LPG cylinders with a capacity of 80 gas cylinders on the conveyor belt and a production rate of 4000 cylinders per day which meets the needs of Al-Raqqa and the nearby areas.

ISIS has collected the equipment of this plant from several plants existing in the areas under its control. However, ISIS did not do any restoration in the gas factory which already exists in the city of Raqqa. To be mentioned, during their control of Raqqa, Ahrar Alsham has made an effort to restore this factory which was heavily damaged due to the clashes in the nearby brigade 17.

ISIS transports bulk gas from the gas fields under its control in Raqqa and Deir Al-zor to provide the new factory through tankers. This factory is considered as one of the most important funding sources for ISIS. One gas cylinder is sold out to the local dealers at a price of 6000 SP who in turn sell it at 6200-6500 SP to consumers, while ISIS members get it at 500 SP to encourage recruitment into its ranks. It is estimated that the revenue of the factory amounts to 24 million SP daily.

During the past three months, ISIS has increased oil prices where a gas cylinder price has been increased from 1500 to 6000 SP reaching sometimes 8000 SP in black market. The increase resulted from dealers transporting gas cylinders in huge amounts to the ISIS controlled areas in Iraq.

Moreover, the prices of fuel coming from the Syrian regime controlled areas is still high because of ISIS monopoly where gasoline price is 750 SP per litre while gas oil exceeds 500 SP per litre. However, the prices of the fuel coming from local refineries is about 125 SP for one litre of gasoline and 100 SP for one litre of gas oil.

Recently, ISIS has transported huge amounts of oil from Iraq to Al-Mansoura and Al-Rasafa in Raqqa after having replaced the old primitive refineries with electric refineries which have higher quality and productivity with decreased environmental impact. The tankers transporting oil to Raqqa return to Iraq filled with refined fuel.
