A young mother has been savagely mutilated by ISIS \u2013\u00a0for breastfeeding in public.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Islamic State (ISIS)\u00a0has a record of treating women appallingly. But a new report has revealed just how barbaric its\u00a0regime can be.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members of ISIS\u2019s notorious all-female Al-Khansa brigade patrols the streets of the so-called \u2018Caliphate\u2019 in Syria and Iraq, enforcing strict sharia laws concerning women\u2019s dress and appearance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Disturbingly, they have recently been using a spiked, metal\u00a0device\u00a0known as \u201cThe Biter\u201d to inflict harsh punishments on local women deemed to have shown too much skin \u2014 and women who breastfeed in public are not exempt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Recently, one 24-year-old woman in the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, Syria\u00a0was recently accosted by the Al-Khansa brigade\u00a0for breastfeeding her baby in public.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Her account of the resulting punishment is hair-raising.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c[T]hey took me to the \u2018Hesba\u2019 headquarters in the city, and escorted me to the torture chamber, then they asked me to choose between a whip or a \u2018biter\u2019,\u201d the woman told anti-ISIS group A-Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI did not know what a \u2018biter\u2019 was and I thought it is a reduced sentence,\u201d she added. \u201cI was afraid of whipping, so I choose the \u2018biter.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThey brought a sharp object that has a lot of teeth and held me, placing it on my chest and pressing it strongly,\u201d the young woman, nicknamed Batol to protect her identity, said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI screamed from pain and I was badly injured. They later took me to the hospital\u2026 I felt then that my femininity has been destroyed completely.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Batol confirmed that other Syrian woman had fallen victim to the biter, too.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was not the only one that was tortured with this instrument,\u201d she told A-Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently . \u201cThere were a lot of women in the headquarters and their situation was tragic.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The device \u201cresembles the type of animal trap that closes on an animal\u2019s legs when he touches it,\u201d\u00a0Ms Ibrahim a-Raqawi explained to Syria Direct<\/em>. \u201cThe biter is like a jaw, when you press on it sharp teeth emerge.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0horrific torture instrument\u00a0is similar to the Spider, also known as the Spanish Spider due to its use during the Spanish Inquisition for the crimes of adultery and abortion.\u00a0It has spikes or \u201cteeth\u201d on the end, and was used in the Middle Ages to shred or rip off the breasts of women accused of various \u2018crimes\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In medieval times, the brutal punishment often resulted in the woman\u2019s death.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Raqqa,<\/a>
<\/strong> Raqqa, in Syria\u2019s north, was captured by ISIS in 2013 and now serves as the militant group\u2019s headquarters.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ms Ibrahim a-Raqawi told Syria Direct<\/em> that women used to \u201cwear normal clothing, casual clothing\u201d and enjoy \u201cmixed-gender cafes and weddings\u201d, but that under ISIS\u2019s rule, women in Raqqa\u00a0\u2014 which was captured by the radical group\u00a0<\/a>in 2013 and became its headquarters soon thereafter \u2014 all women must now wear the niqab outside.<\/strong><\/p>\n
